    What Does Treatment Involve

Four steps, every visit. Assess — we talk through your condition and what you are hoping for. Target — we agree a plan together. Treat — specialist-led localised cryotherapy to the affected area. Review — we check how you responded and plan the next visit.

    How can it Help

The NHS recognises local cold therapy as a supportive approach that may help relieve osteoarthritis pain and symptoms in some people. Results vary — from pain free, to a modest improvement. We do not claim to cure arthritis or replace medical treatment. We assess you individually, treat to a plan, and measure how you respond.

Assessed and supervised by a registered practitioner

Every client at Cryo Recovery Suite is assessed and supervised by Mark Barber, an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, with a master’s degree in Surgical Care Practice (Orthopaedics) and more than ten years in orthopaedic surgery.

That is unusual in this sector, and it is the reason the clinic will tell you when cold therapy is not the right thing for you.

About Mark and the clinic

Who we work with

People come to Cryo Recovery Suite with long-term joint and soft-tissue pain — most often knee and hip osteoarthritis, joint stiffness, tendon problems and muscle pain that has not settled on its own. Many come alongside treatment they are already having, not instead of it.

Cold therapy does not suit everyone, and there are things we will send you to a doctor for rather than see you.

We will not oversell this

The NHS says that, for osteoarthritis, applying hot or cold packs to the joints can relieve the pain and symptoms in some people. That is the basis on which we work, and it is as far as the evidence goes.

What we will not tell you is that our way of applying cold works better than any other. Nobody has shown that. The UK advertising regulator has not accepted claims that cryotherapy is effective, and we do not make any.

Cryo Recovery Suite does not claim to cure arthritis, reverse joint damage, or replace established medical treatment.
